June 2023: Temporary lane closures on Princes Way as One City Park scheme nears completion

Essential roadworks around Bradford city centre will commence from 3 July 2023, with a second lane of the Princes Way southbound side of the road to close for eight weeks as work gets underway to create a new access and lay-by to service the new One City Park office scheme which is due to complete at the end of the summer.

One lane of Princes Way has been closed since April 2022 to allow for the development construction work which is being delivered by Bradford Council, with nationwide placemaker, Muse as development manager and Caddick Construction as the main contractor.

The additional lane closure running alongside the One City Park construction site will take place from 3 July until the end of August as part of the final phase of construction. It is expected to cause disruption to local traffic with only one lane remaining open to accommodate traffic on the route to the south of the city centre. The new access and lay-by created will be used by the building occupants and service vehicles for One City Park, which is the first new high quality office development in Bradford for 20 years and is part-funded through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Getting Building Fund programme. 

The One City Park works and lane closures will be a precursor to further major highways work in the area as a result of the Council’s wider regeneration plans for the City including the  Walking and Cycling Improvements Scheme that is set to transform the way people get around the city centre. The scheme includes the pedestrianisation and landscaping of a number of city centre streets and re-routing some buses around the city centre as part of a £43m project to make the city centre a healthier, safer and more attractive place in which to live, work and visit. Construction is set to start this summer and continue throughout the run-up to the district’s UK City of Culture celebrations in 2025. These improvements are a partnership project by Bradford Council and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.  The scheme is being delivered through the Combined Authority’s Transforming Cities Fund programme, which is aimed at making it easier to walk, cycle and use public transport.
